10 College Dropouts More Successful Than You

College isn't for everyone. But that doesn't mean you can't be a genius without it.

Though graduates are proven more likely to be hired than someone without higher education, many of the technology companies we rely so heavily upon were started by dropouts.

With the increasingly high cost of a college education, and a job market that appears anything but reassuring, there are plenty of reasons for young entrepreneurs to replace the expensive textbooks and cinder-block dorms for a business of their own.

Of course, starting your own company doesn't come without its own heavy costs. Though we certainly don't discourage students from pursuing any form of education, it's hard to imagine a life without Microsoft, Apple, Facebook or Tumblr.

Not to mention a lot of those dropouts are filthy rich now.

1. David Karp, Tumblr
David Karp is best known for founding Tumblr. At the young age of 15, Karp dropped out of high school and began homeschooling. He never did get his diploma, but remains the CEO of Tumblr, which was acquired by Yahoo for $1.1 billion.

2. Ben Kaufman, Mophie
By his senior year of high school, Ben Kaufman had invented what started as an iPod charging accessory, called Mophie. The product won Best of Show at MacWorld 2006 -- the same year in which Kaufman briefly attended Champlain College, where he lists his activities as "not going to class."
He dropped out, and Mophie was acquired in 2007. Two years later, Kaufman went on to launch Quirky, a platform that allows inventors to submit their ideas. The inventions are critiqued and, if chosen, will be designed and manufactured by the Quirky team.

Facebook Acquires Oculus VR

Oculus VR® was founded by Palmer Luckey, self-described virtual reality enthusiast and hardware geek. The company launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund development of their first product, the Oculus Rift, a ground-breaking virtual reality headset for immersive gaming.
With the support of top video game companies including Valve, Epic Games and Unity, the Kickstarter was an enormous success, raising over $2.4 million in funding from project backers and supporters around the world.

The news on ground is that Facebook is buying Oculus VR, a startup that makes virtual reality headsets, in a $2 billion deal.
Oculus doesn't make a consumer product yet, but its headset called the Oculus Rift for video game developers has completely changed the way many feel about video games.

The device is nearly impossible to describe. It makes you feel like you're truly immersed in a virtual environment. It's one of those things you have to try to fully understand. And we guarantee it'll blow your mind.

Console gaming companies have sensed the threat of Oculus, which is why Sony announced a similar headset for its new PlayStation 4 gaming console. However, it's unclear when Sony's headset will launch.

The question now is: why would Facebook buy a video game hardware company?

According to a statement from CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the company plans to expand Oculus beyond gaming:

After games, we're going to make Oculus a platform for many other experiences. Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face -- just by putting on goggles in your home.

Mark Zuckerberg also made this announcement on his Facebook page, click the link below to read...

Ithaka by C.P. Cavafy

As you set out for Ithaka
hope the voyage is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
wild Poseidon—you won’t encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope the voyage is a long one.
May there be many a summer morning when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you come into harbors seen for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind—
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to gather stores of knowledge from their scholars.

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you are destined for.
But do not hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you are old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you would not have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won’t have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you will have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.

My "CONNECTED" Experience...

I can't remember where I heard this "If you can't start a cause then join (or support one)" but this was the first thought that crossed my mind during the November Edition of ‘CONNECTED’ tagged: Walking on Water (WOW), there it was announced that the December Edition was going to be more of Social Responbility where we'll get the opportunity to reach out to any of these two communities; either Dustbin estate in Ajegunle or Makoko community.

CONNECTED is Christian Entertainment and Social Networking group comprising young Christian professionals organizing monthly editions of events/Hangouts at various fun locations. I became 'connected to CONNECTED' when a friend invited to a morning work-out at the National Stadium, apparently that was the October Sports Edition and the activities on that day were Jogging, Aerobics, Tennis and skating and at the end I started looking forward to the next edition which was in a boat cruise to a resort and a zoo in Ikorodu.
Being part of 'Connected' has really helped me relate with some really interesting personalities, explore some other interesting ways of having fun and also build a larger network of friends from almost every work of life imaginable and at the moment I am looking forward to January's edition.

I just hope January edition would not be declared a Meditation edition, anyways as long as it 'Connected' then it is always an experience.

Establishing and Keeping Alpha Position Letting your dog know you are the boss (Top Dog)

Below is a list of rules every dog owner should follow to ensure your dog knows his place in your human pack. If your dog guards his food or growls at humans in the family, and especially if you own a wolf hybrid, these rules should be strictly followed. Dogs need to have a clear place in their pack. A dog lacking in this clear order is an unhappy dog.
Sometimes a dog might not be showing signs of aggression, however the dog is suddenly showing signs of separation anxiety, such as destructive behaviors when you leave the house. A dog that steals food from human hands has no respect for the human, and therefore does not see the human as pack leader. A dog that questions his place in the household pack can sometimes cause him to suddenly display destructive behaviors, as the dog is confused and taking his anxiety out on your house.
A dog that knows his place in his human pack is a happy dog. A dog that does not is a confused dog and can exhibit many unwanted behaviors because of it.

1. The number one way to communicate to a dog that you are his pack leader is to take him for a walk. Not the type of walk most humans take their dogs on but a pack walk, where the dog is made to heel beside or behind the human who is holding the lead. This is most important for all dogs, as in a dog's mind, the leader always leads the way. A dog must not be allowed to sniff or eliminate anywhere he wishes, but where you allow him. One marking against a tree is enough for male dogs. The dog should be concentrating on following the human, not worrying about leading the way. This pack-type walk should be done daily. Not only will this release built-up energy, but it will satisfy the dog's instinct to migrate which all dogs possess. Dogs that have excess energy bottled up inside them and that do not have their migration instinct met will develop various instability issues that most people mistake for being breed traits.

2. All humans must eat before the dogs, as the leader always eats first.  When you give your dog its food eat a small snack first while he is watching, lay the snack near the dog’s food so that he thinks you are eating out of his bowl (the leader always eats first).

3. No table scraps should be fed to the dogs during a meal.

4. Feedings must be at a scheduled time. (No self-feeding dog food dispensers should be used, as this allows the dog to choose when he eats.)

Showing Appreciation

East America (Atlanta, New Jersey, .... etc) are experiencing a terrible evolving hurricane #HurricaneSandy even as I type this, as in right now. The unfortunate part is whenever you eventually come across this post, the Hurricane might still be on and then you go around saying God has done nothing for you.

Remember  "The Mathew Effect" (...unto him that has not, even That Which He HAS Shall Be Taken Away From Him". This means you actually HAD in the first instance but have either undermined or failed to acknowledge that which you have.
No matter what you are passing through, find something (no matter how little) to be thankful for (even if its for being able to read this post).
You mean so much to me.
